If you live in Worcestershire, Shropshire or West Midlands, the best place to hire a canoe is the River Severn. It is the longest river in Great Britain and the section running from Bridgnorth down to Bewdley offers some fantastic canoeing, suitable for families (age 7+), groups & friends. If you like the odd rapid, there are a few along this stretch, but don't worry, they aren't too challenging- just lots of fun!

Hiring a canoe is a really easy way to get on the river because the canoe rental companies will do all the heavy lifting and get your canoe to the start point and come and collect it at the end. They also provide buoyancy aids, paddles and a barrel to store your belongings. In addition you benefit from their river expertise. At River Severn Canoes we only employ experienced paddlers and at the start of all of our trips, we will do a river safety and instruction briefing to help you have the best possible experience on the river.

So what are the options? For a shorter, 5 mile paddle (that takes around 2 hours), you can choose to canoe from either Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade or Hampton Loade to Arley. This route is ideal if you want to walk back to your car along the beautiful footpath and make a great day of it. Our favourite of the two is Hampton Loade to Arley as it is very pretty, but both offer some great scenery and make for a fab canoe trip! For a longer route you can choose the ever popular Bridgnorth to Arley trip which takes around 4 hours with a picnic or pub stop along the way. The beauty of this canoe trip is that about half way there is a great beach area to stop for lunch or you have a choice of two pubs (also half way in Hampton Loade) - The Unicorn or The River & Rail. You also end your trip in Arley which has a great tearoom, pub and footbridge over to the Severn Valley Railway (where you can get the train back to Bridgnorth- when they are operating normal service again).

Who can hire a canoe on the River Severn?

Our self-guided canoe trips are suitable for age 7+ You don't have to be really fit as the river often does a lot of the work for you but you do need to have confidence on the water.

For anyone looking to jot down a quick thought without the overhead of a full document editor, the Notepad Cool interface gets out of the way. It is essentially a blank canvas where you can type immediately, and the lack of menus means you can focus on the content rather than formatting. The simplicity is its main strength, making it a reliable choice for everyday notes.

Hiring a canoe is straightforward once you've sorted the basics: availability, safety briefing, and river conditions. What often gets overlooked is the confirmation process—many hire companies send a long email with maps, kit lists, and weather warnings that's easy to lose in the shuffle. A tool for drafting better emails could help you keep all that information organized in your replies, making sure you don't miss the small print about launch times.
