what to bring on your canoe or kayak trip
Once you’ve booked your trip we’ll send you a handy kit list with a few useful tips. The good news is that you don’t need much – canoeing on the River Severn or kayaking on the canal in Kinver is relaxed and accessible. Just come prepared for the weather and ready to enjoy the journey.
We provide the canoe/kayak, paddles, buoyancy aids and a large dry bag for each canoe on the River Severn or a smaller one for your phone/wallet on the canal.
Clothing
-
Light, comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little damp
-
Wet shoes or water shoes if you have them
-
Old trainers if you don’t have water shoes
-
Lightweight trousers/shorts for canal trips (especially if heading to the pub afterwards as you are likely to get a wet bottom and legs)
Extra Layers
-
Waterproof jacket in case the weather changes
-
Jumper or fleece for cooler days
-
Spare set of clothes (recommended for River Severn trips, especially in colder weather)
Sun Protection
-
Sunglasses
-
Suncream (the sun reflects strongly off the water)
Food & Drink
-
A picnic or snacks to enjoy along the way
-
Plenty of water
There are some lovely spots along the River Severn to pull over, stretch your legs and relax by the riverbank.
Things You’ll Be Glad You Brought
-
Phone or camera for photos of the scenery and wildlife
-
A small towel if you have one
For our Kinver canal kayak trips, many people like to bring a spare pair of trousers so they can change afterwards and enjoy a drink or one of the famous woodfired pizzas at The Vine Inn, right beside the canal.
Most importantly, bring a sense of adventure and a willingness to slow down and enjoy the journey.
