Option 1: Bridgnorth → Arley + Train Return

  • Start point: Bridgnorth

  • Finish: Arley

  • Distance: ~4 hours paddling

  • Start time: 10:00am

  • Return: Steam train from Arley → Bridgnorth

 

This is your most popular route – a relaxed paddle downstream with plenty of time to:

  • Enjoy the scenery

  • Take breaks along the river

  • Stop at the riverside pub in Arley 🍻

 

Once you arrive, simply walk to Arley station and catch the train back.

Option 2: Hampton Loade → Bewdley (Train to Start)

Relaxing in a canoe on the River Severn

The Train First, Paddle Back Adventure

  • Park at: Bewdley Station

  • Train: Bewdley → Hampton Loade

  • Paddle: Back downstream to Bewdley

  • Canoe Trip Start time: 12:30pm launch

 

This is a brilliant one-way circular experience:

  1. Park your car at Bewdley station

  2. Take the train upriver to Hampton Loade

  3. Paddle back to your car

There are train services that get you to Hampton Loade in time for your 12:30pm launch.

  • Journey time between stations is short (approx. 10–20 mins between stops)

  • Easy, scenic ride along the valley

Hampton Loade → Arley (Train to start)

Family canoeing on the River Severn

A shorter paddle with all the best bits

A brilliant option if you want a shorter, relaxed canoe trip with the same great experience.

Trip details:

  • Park in Arley (free parking at Arley Arboretum)

  • Train: Arley to Hampton Loade

  • Paddle time: approx. 2 hours

  • Finish: Arley and visit the pub or Arley Arboretum tearoom)

 

This is perfect if you:

  • Don’t want a full 4-hour paddle

  • Are with younger children

  • Want time to enjoy a pub stop without rushing

 

Just like the longer route, you’ll paddle downstream through one of the most scenic stretches of the River Severn before finishing in Arley.

Do we need to organise the train separately?

No — you can add train tickets when booking your canoe trip.

 

What if trains aren’t running?

These trips are only available on dates when trains are running — we’ll make this clear when booking.

 

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes — both routes are gentle, downstream paddles.

 

How long does it take?

  • Bridgnorth → Arley: around 4 hours + train

  • Hampton Loade → Bewdley: around 4 hours + train

  • Hampton Loade → Arley: around 2 hours + train

 

Can we stop along the way?

Yes — when doing Bridgnorth to Arley, there are picnic stops along the way or you can stop at The Unicorn, which is around half way. When paddling Hampton Loade to Bewdley, Arley is the ideal stop with a pub, cafe and the Arley Arboretum cafe.
