Top 4 family days out in Shropshire & Worcestershire

We've all been stuck at home for a while now and so it's time to get out and do something different with the kids. Stuck for ideas? Here are out top 4 family days out in the Shropshire/Worcestershire area... (we hope you like them as much as we do!)

  1. Severn Valley Country Park (near Bridgnorth)

The Severn Valley Country Park is Green Flag Award winning park and a wonderful place to visit and explore. Located 8 miles from Bridgnorth and 7 miles from Kidderminster, it's easily accessible and sits in the heart of the Severn Valley. The park provides 126 acres of beautiful countryside and spans both sides of the longest river in the UK (the River Severn). The woodlands, ponds and meadows here offer plenty for the kids to run about and explore. Take a net and find some creatures in the ponds or play hide and seek in the woods. Grab the picnic blanket and relax in one of the many fields while the kids run around. Find a nice little spot by the river and take in the wonderful views...There's so much to see & do here, you'll no doubt go back again and again. When the trains are running, you can walk along the river, starting at the Severn Valley Country Park and then get a a leisurely train ride back on a magical Steam Train from Arley or Hampton Loade. It doesn't get much better than that!

2. Trimpley Reservoir

Trimpley Reservoir is located in Eyemore Wood, near Bewdley and is a great place to take the family for a scenic walk that takes you through woodland and alongside the reservoir and River Severn. You're spoilt for choice for picnic spots, but my favourite is the little beach area next to the river, perfect for the dog to have a swim and the kids to have a paddle. Other activities here include fishing, birdwatching and sailing. Click here to discover a range of walking routes available.

3. Hire a canoe on the River Severn

The River Severn stretches 220 miles and is the longest river in the country. There's no better way to enjoy the river than by hiring a canoe and getting on the water. Hire a canoe from River Severn Canoes and start your canoe trip in Bridgnorth where you can enjoy a leisurely paddle downstream under bridges and over small rapids.Finish your journey in either Hampton Loade or Arley for an ideal family day out in the great outdoors. There's plenty of lovely stop points along the way for a picnic and to let the kids run around for a while and paddle/fish and collect things. Suitable for children age 7+, this is a family activity in Shopshire that you will all enjoy, making memories for life.

4. Walk to see a waterfall in the Carding Mill Valley & paddle in the stream

The Carding Mill Valley in the Shopshire Hills is a really popular family day out and is much loved for its long winding stream that offers ample paddling opportunities for families. Park up and go for a lovely walk to the waterfall (which the kids will love as it involves clambering on rocks and lots of adventure!) Then find a nice picnic spot by the stream and let the kids potter around and explore...(don't forget the wet shoes!) This relaxed, enjoyable family day out offers an abundance of wildlife, beautiful scenery and is an adventure the whole family will enjoy.
